You are here: About Soap Nuts Dragons Den
On January 26th, another Canadian soap nuts company pitched these wonderful eco-friendly berries on the television program Dragon's Den.  I have received a large number of queries since the Dragon's Den broadcast wondering how I felt about the pitch.

From the inception of Earth's Berries in July of 2009, it has always been my mission to get soap nuts into as many households as possible.  Any exposure for these berries, a product I so strongly believe in, is wonderful!
However, as the owner of Earth's Berries soap nuts, I was concerned with Dragon Arlene Dickinson's overly dramatic reaction to their odor.  I wasn't satisfied with respect to how Arlene's reaction was addressed (you may have noticed none of the other Dragons seemed to have an issue with their odor).  We all know what happens with television shows like these when people are on camera. Broadcasters encourage some theatre (the dart guns, for example) and hosts often behave in an overtly manner to keep things interesting, which in turn creates drama and builds suspense for viewers watching at home.

The biggest question I've been fielding today due to Arlene's reaction is, "Do they really smell that bad?"

When people are first introduced to soap nuts (which aren't really nuts, they're berries that grow on a tree much like maple keys grow on our maple trees here in Canada), it's been my experience that about 40% of first-time users don't like the smell initially.  The berries, in their packaging, do smell a little like vinegar.  But while some users might not like the odor of the berries initially, they do love the fresh clean smell of their laundry once they've used them!

Soap nuts, like vinegar, help to balance the PH of organic odors like sweat, urine, mildew or musty towels.  As one of my customers was thrilled to discover on her first try, "They take the stink out of my laundry!"  This is precisely what makes soap nuts so amazing!

Soap nuts are great for all of your laundry requirements, but they're especially great with cloth diapers, sweaty gym clothing, and team jerseys.  One of the hottest fitness crazes today is hot yoga.  People are investing a lot of money on beautiful pieces of athletic wear they simply cannot remove sweaty odors from using traditional concentrated laundry detergents.  Traditional detergents are also harsh on these expensive fabrics, while soap nuts are natural and leave no films or detergent behind.  Soap nuts do not clog the pores of pricey wicking materials and they protect the fabric's color and fibers - WIN WIN WIN all around!

To this end, I offer warm thanks and congratulations to the soap nuts company that pitched on Dragon's Den.  Thank you for spreading the word about this truly wonderful product!

If anyone has any further questions regarding soap nuts, Earth's Berries soap nuts would be more than happy to help you!
